classes

Our preschool program runs 32 weeks–from mid-September through the third week in May, with a 3-week Winter Recess and a 1-week Spring Break scheduled each year.  There are 6 other school holidays scheduled throughout the school year.

SYC offers classes for children aged 2 through 5.  All classes are 2½ hours long, and classes are offered in the mornings and afternoons. (Classes for 2 year olds are only offered in the morning.)  All morning classes are 9:30-12:00 noon and our two afternoon classes are 1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

The 2 Year Old Program

For 2½ year olds (children who will turn two by June 30) we offer two classes which begin the following September:

• Monday-Wednesday A.M. 2’s
• Tuesday-Thursday A.M. 2’s

For younger 2 year olds (children who will turn 2 from 7/1 through 9/30), we offer a one-morning-per-week class which begins the following September:

• Friday A.M. Younger 2s

Each of our 2-year-old classes has 10 children and two teachers, and they are offered in the AM only–9:30-12 noon.  At the beginning of the year, our 2’s classes last 1½ hours, and gradually increase in time to the full 2½ hours as the children in the class are ready for that.  A parent or caregiver is required to stay at school with each child for the first 2 weeks (or longer in individual cases if teachers and parents agree that it would be helpful).

The classes meet in Classrooms 1 & 2.

The 3 And 3/4 Year Old Program

SYC offers classes for children who are 3 or older by September 30.

• Monday-Wednesday-Friday A.M. 3’s
• Tuesday-Thursday A.M. 3’s
• Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday P.M. 3/4’s

The 3’s and 3/4 classes each have 18 children and three teachers. The classes meet in Classrooms 3, 4 & 5.
